đ Does Your Balloon Need More Helium?
Itâs not about doing more. Itâs about feeling more you.
Are you feeling a call to something more, a yearning for something newâŚbut maybe unsure what that âmoreâ or ânewâ might be?
And maybe youâre also questioning whether youâre even allowed to be or have more. Especially nowâŚwhen everything around us seems to be in constant flux.
Youâre not alone.
Iâve been talking to so many people who are feeling this way.
As a coach, talking to people about their dreams is always tender work. And in these uncertain times, when everyoneâs nervous systems are working overtime just to maintain a sense of sanity, a single word or phraseââlike my signature âbigger, bolder, badassâââcan send people running for the hills. It can sound like Iâm asking them to do more work, when theyâre already maxed out.
Yesterday, I was talking with a client and used the phrase âthe fullest expression of you.â And even that landed heavy for her. She shared how it made her feel like she was supposed to be bigger than she is, or that her life had to look a certain way to be meaningful.
I get it. Words like those can stir up old stories that weâre not enough, or that our dreams arenât big enough, or that weâre falling short.
So much of the popularly touted peak performance psychology focuses on results and optimizationâoften implying a need for public visibility, external validation, or bold, risky leaps. And that can feel alienating when your deepest longing is for something quieter. Inner expansion. Balance. Peace. Quiet courage. Feeling at home in yourself.
I think my clients would tell you I use the gentlest language I canâand make quiet invitations, even when Iâm asking you to consider what surfing your edge or living fully might feel like for you. Still, Iâm always on the lookout for better words and softer metaphors that feel less confrontational and more like a loving, curious nudge.
Yesterday, one arrived.
I asked my client to picture a helium balloon in front of her...and now I'm going to ask you to do the same. Imagine a helium balloon shaped like you, with a head, arms, legs, and a torso.
Notice how full it is.
Is it rounded and smooth, full to bursting? Or are there sagging, crinkly edges? Maybe some droopiness or deflated places? Is the head full, but the body trailing limply beneath it?
Thatâs what I mean when I talk about living your fullest life.
â
Not about climbing mountains or quitting your job or becoming a social media icon...(unless you want to...and then I'm totally on board to cheer you on!)
â
But about noticing where your balloon could use a little more air.
More ease.
More breath.
More you.
Is your balloon floating happily through the world?
â
Or are there some neglected spaces longing to be re-inflated? Or maybe inflated for the first time ever?
Drop a comment below and tell me what you notice. Iâd love to hear.
Wishing you wonder,
P.S.â
